On or about the third Sunday of each October, members of the Upper Delaware Unitarian Universalist Fellowship organize The Bud Rue Walk for Social Justice to raise funds for organizations whose work helps to support social justice in the area. |
The walk is an easy five-mile stroll along back roads in Beach Lake, PA beginning and ending at the Berlin Community Center. A sweep car continually drives the route. Walkers can choose to leave the walk at any point. An abundant potluck meal is provided following the walk at the Community Center, beginning around 2:00 p.m. |

To collect pledges and join in the walk, print out this pledge form and let the Fellowship know of your interest. All funds collected are distributed to the designated organizations the following spring. |
How did this event get started? Bud Rue was a charter member of the Upper Delaware Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. Back in 1993, he asserted that, while he thoroughly enjoyed talks and discussions, he felt strongly that the group should be "out there doing something" to help less fortunate people. So after helping to organize the Wayne County chapter of Habitat for Humanity, he persuaded the Fellowship to sponsor a fundraiser with proceeds to be donated to local charities. |
