PRESS RELEASE
Walk-a-thon proceeds will exceed $15,000
NARROWSBURG, NY and MILANVILLE, PA - Over the last four years, $14,750 generated by the Bud Rue Memorial Walk for Social Justice has been distributed among local charities, according to organizational treasurer, Ann Rue. Exceeding the $15,000 mark seems a sure thing this year, organizers said. The walk is sponsored by the Upper Delaware Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (UDUUF) of Milanville.
The public is invited to participate in the 1997 event. Each walker
collects pledges from generous individual and organizational donors. Those
who can not walk themselves, who would like to contribute, may mail
donations to UDUUF, PO Box 123, Milanville, Pa. 18443.
The fifth annual 10k walk will be held Sunday, October 19th.
The walk will commence at 1:00 PM in the parking lot of the
Tusten-Cochecton Library in Narrowsburg. Walkers will cross the Delaware
River bridge, turn right on River Rd., and walk at their own pace upriver
to the UDUUF meeting hall in Milanville.
With zero administrative or professional costs, all donations collected
from the 1997 walk will be distributed equally among the following five
organizations:
Delaware Highlands Conservancy
Habitat for Humanity of Sullivan County
Interfaith Outreach United
Unitarian Universalist United Nations Office
Victims Intervention Program
The event is named in memory of a retired teacher from Milanville who organized the first such walk in 1993, and died of heart failure while that walk was in progress.
