Walk-a-thon Shares Proceeds
MILANVILLE, PA -- The Upper Delaware Unitarian/Universalist Fellowship recently dispersed proceeds from their annual Walkathon. Each charity received $950 in support of their respective causes.
Two local affiliates of Habitat for Humanity (HFH) focus on the issue of sub-standard housing for low income families. These families work with Habitat volunteers to build simple, decent homes sold to the family with no-interest no-profit mortgages.
Victim's Intervention Program (VIP) addresses the needs of domestic violence victims. Hot line service, emergency housing, counseling, and other supportive services are offered to clients.
Interfaith Outreach United (IOU) provides services to families in temporary crisis. Food and housing needs are met. Food baskets and a tyou exchange are available to such families at holiday times.
A fifth charity sponsored by the UU Walk-a-thon is the United Nations Office of the Unitarian/Universalist Church.
The Fellowship has held the Wal-a-thon to raise money for social justice issues for the past three years. The idea originated with Bud Rue, a member of the fellowship who died while participating on the first walk. The event was subsequently named in his honor and has continued to address humanitarian needs as was his desire.
The Upper Delaware UU Fellowship has services each Sunday at 11 a.m. at Innisfree in Milanville, PA. Call (717) 729-7197 for additional information.
