The suggestion that I am one of "the same six people who hurl abuse" at the mayor and manager at Village Board meetings (Jan. 27) is mistaken. I don't know where your reporter has been, but I've attended a grand total of one such meeting in a year. However, I respect those who trouble themselves to go regularly to voice concern over spiraling taxes and to demand accountability. So should the Record.
Gordon Jenkins won the Democratic primary by a landslide. He now moves on to the March 15 general election, where he will also do well. I was a lifelong Democrat until I moved to Sullivan County and became disillusioned with the corruption I found here. I've been registered "blank" for years — governed by common sense, not blind loyalty. Jenkins helps restore hope that the local Democratic Party may live up to its progressive and inclusive ideals.
As the best candidate, Jenkins enjoys multipartisan support among voters, even if certain party bosses may prefer someone more easily controlled. For those who believe taxes are too high and who want improvements in the way Village Hall does business, Gordon Jenkins is the right man for the job.
