Dear President Benson:

Reference is made to my letter dated 15 November 1987, in which I requested you excommunicate me from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, forthwith. I have received no word from the stake; or officially at all, except in a communication dated 30 November 1987, from F. Michael Watson of your offices, urging me to reconsider "in view of the eternal consequences of such action."

Please thank Brother Watson for the warning, but take notice that I hereby renounce my membership, ordinantions to the Aaronic and Melchizeek priesthoods, and Temple ordinances, effective this date. You have my heartfelt love, and the assurance that I will always value my adolescent experiences a member of your spiritual community. However, I have chosen a different path for myself and do not wish to have my name enrolled with the LDS patriarchal order.

May you always walk in light; and if it harms none, do what you will.

Blessed be,
Thomas S. Rue
