WASHINGTON, DC - Sean York, 17, of Monticello is pictured in front of the Capitol, where estimates say upwards of a million African-Americans gathered on October 16 for what organizers termed "a day of reconciliation and atonement."A busload of 50 Sullivan County residents participated, organized by Sean's father, Jessie York of Monticello.
The elder York, and marcher Roy Parker, also of Monticello, said they expect the march's impact on local organizing efforts to be significant. They described the event as uplifting and positive.
