Candidates eat chicken at book-signing

FALLSBURG - A bevy of local politicians stopped in for a book-signing by the author of the 1994 book, Two Kinds of Courage -- Frederick Douglass & John Brown, A look at their relationship. Copies were on sale at the barbeque.

The August 20 chicken barbeque was held at the home of retired clinical psychologist, Dr. Lewis Howard of Fallsburg, to help promote Browne's book and also to give candidates an opportunity to explain their platforms and field questions.

Howard is president of the Sullivan County chapter of the Association for the Study of African-American Life and History, known for the annual Frederick Douglass Breakfast each February. The barbeque was attended by about 45 people.

Browne is a professor of English at Brooklyn College and writes occasionally for The River Reporter.
