Town endorses SDTC residence
By TOM RUE
- MONTICELLO - The Thompson town board gave a show of support to a plan by Sullivan Diagnostic Treatment Center (SDTC) -- founded in 1948 as United Cerebral Palsy of Sullivan County, Inc. -- to build a single family dwelling on Old Route 17 near Greentree Rd. in Harris.
- The new community residence will house six developmentally disabled people, aged 23 to 28, whom councilman Bill James described as medically frail and multiply handicapped. State funds expected to be used in funding the construction, according to supervisor Anthony Cellini.
- SDTC executive director Patrick Dollard has pledged an annual $2500 payment in lieu of taxes on the 13-acre parcel, Cellini said. SDTC is exempt from taxation.
- While municipal approval was not required, James asked that a public hearing be held. No one spoke for or against the proposal, and the board voted 4-0-1. Councilman William Rieber recused himself, stating his agency was brokering the property sale.
