Winter closing in on
Delaware Community Center
- CALLICOON - Responding to rumors of closure, Delaware Community Center board president Tom Rue said the board had decided that -- if responsible replacements for caretakers Bill and Sue Hennig could not be found -- the community center may close down for the coldest months of the winter, except for already scheduled special events. The Hennigs told the board that they would be spending the winterly in the southerly climes.
- Rue said that the possibility of closing was only tentative, and that the resolution adopted at the board's October 13 regular meeting was not final but dependent on finding replacements for the Hennigs.
- An amendment to the center's by-laws, also passed that evening, settled a long-standing policy dispute. The amended by-laws stipulate that any group may use the center for any purpose not prohibited by law, but it must also contribute to help maintain the center for future generations.
- Rue noted that a recent event at the center sparked some controversy as to what was an appropriate use of Hermann Hall. Rue reported that the amendment was unanimously approved, with one board member absent.
