Youth Center crooks nabbed
By TOM RUE
- CALLICOON - Two men were arrested on September 27th for stealing a $600 stereo system from the Delaware Community Center, according to the Sullivan County Sheriff's Department.
- Vincent Senft, 25, of Callicoon, was charged with two counts of burglary and second-degree possession of stolen property, both felonies, and giving a false written statement, a misdemeanor, police said.
- Charles Dutkiewicz, 21, of Hortonville, was charged with burglary and third-degree possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor.
- Both men were arraigned in Delaware town justice court and sent to the Sullivan County Jail without bail, pending another hearing.
- Peri Ann Hennig, former president of the center's board of directors, said that when she discovered that the stereo was missing, "I did some investigating."
- "I called the school and had it announced that there would be no teen activities until the stereo was returned," Hennig related. She received a call from a student with information on the burglary within the hour, she said.
- Senft is accused of breaking into the center through a back door and taking an amplifier which was later discovered in his Fremont Street apartment.
- According to a press account, police said the pair returned to the scene of the crime on the same day to steal a tape-deck, which was also recovered.
