Immediate Release N E W S Written: 05-01-2000 Human Rights Commission to announce MONTICELLO - School violence and human diversity were the themes of 90 literary submissions received in an essay contest, sponsored by the Village of Monticello Commission on Human Rights and the Monticello Central School District. Participants in the contest will be recognized at the May 15th meeting of the Village Board of Trustees, starting at 7:00 P.M., according to human rights commission chairperson Carmen Rue, who helped organize the contest. The meeting will be held on the second floor of Village Hall at 2 Pleasant Street. Participants, family members, teachers, and interested friends are invited to witness the program. Rue credited commission vice-chair Greg Feicht with assistance, and entire human rights commission for helping with the work of the contest. Also, Lynn Skolnick of the school's office of special services helped facilitate youth participation in the schools, Rue said. All students who submitted essays will receive a Certificate of Merit by Monticello mayor Gary P. Sommers and members of the commission. The names of the six students whose work was selected by the commission as best expressing the ideals of celebrating diversity and non-violence will be announced at the meeting, and winners will be given cash prizes and local gift certificates.Winning essays will be posted on the Village's website.
