Rocky wooded trails in the Neversink River Unique Area are open to the public and receive limited maintenance from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. The trails are fairly rough. These photos start at the Cold Spring Road access area, about seven miles east of Monticello near Hartwood. I reversed course when I reached Little Eden Brook where I could longer distinguish the direction of the trail. Half way back to car I met x-country runner Rich Northup (pictured with his canine companion) who informed me the trail actually turns left at the above mentioned brook and reaches the river a short time later. "Next time," I replied. He told me about a time earlier this year when he was walking his two dogs, unleashed, and they discovered a den of rattlesnakes.

Also pictured are the former home of local author Stephen Crane, the dam, waterfall, foliage, and lake across the street from it; plus scenery along the Neverink between Hartwood and Oakland Valley, including some taken from and beneath County Bridge #82 up- and downriver.
