His Excellency Javier Perez de Cuellar
Secretary General of the United Nations
United Nations Plaza
New York, New York 10017Sir:
I have never before taken the privilege to write to the United Nations, but I wish to do so at this time to commend to the entire assembly of nations, in the strongest possible terms, the words of the Honorable Nelson Mandela of the African National Congress in his recent address. I listened to the proceedings yesterday on National Public Radio and felt deeply moved by his plea to the world to condemn the crimes against humanity perpetrated by the South African government.
I would appreciate it immensely if your office would provide me a transcript of Mr. Mandela's remarks, together with any available public information concerning his recent visit. If possible, I would appreciate it if you could send me a portrait of the man, suitable for framing. I would be willing to pay an appropriate fee. Most respectfully,
Thomas S. Ruetsr
