Justice OKs motion to drop charges against protesters

MONTICELLO -- Charges were dropped against the three members of the "Monticello Five," arrested for for protesting the job swap among village officials last summer.
Crawford [sic] Town Justice Perry E. Meltzer agreed to Sullivan County District Attorney Stephen F. Lungen's motion to dismiss the charges against Glenn Pontier, Mary Marino and Charles T. Stephenson, after a Supreme Court judge ruled in January that the job swap was illegal.
Charges against the other two members, Tom and Carmen Rue, were dismissed earlier this month.
The five were arrested and charged Aug. 2 with disorderly conduct, a violation, carrying protest signs into a board meeting. They were protesting the village's "musical chairs" power shift.
The shift involved Mayor John Diuguid's resignation to become the village justice, and Trustee Robert Friedland's move to become mayor.
