Blake H. Bates, a banker by vocation, served as organist for Monticello Lodge No. 532, F. & A. M. for 34 years, according to a card that hangs beneath his framed portrait in the collation room of the Monticello Masonic Temple. Brother Bates was initiated an Entered Apprentice on April 28, 1899; passed to the degree of Fellow Craft on May 26, 1899; and raised to the Sublime degree of Master Mason on June 9, 1899 at Monticello. He entered his eternal rest on December 9, 1952.
