Tenants' association president ousted

By TOM RUE

MONTICELLO - Monticello Housing Authority's tenant association got a new leader when Elaine Williams was removed from office by action of the board, acting president Evelyn Glasgow said.

Glasgow declined to elaborate on the precise reasons for Williams' ouster, except to note that Williams "broke our by-laws" by failing to attend several meetings in a row. The transition occurred in December. Glasgow was previously vice-president.

The association exists to represent the interests of tenants in the Monticello Housing Authority's 78 apartments and 19 senior citizen units, Glasgow said, noting that dues are $1 per month. The association also receives funds from the U.S. office of Housing & Urban Development (HUD).

The finances of the organization are reportedly under scrutiny, said a source other than Glasgow who asked not to be named. Glasgow declined to comment on reports that questions around the association's finances exist.

Other officers include acting vice-president Sarah Bennett; secretary Debbie Williams; and treasurer Shara D'Das, Glasgow said.

An election is expected in April.
