Monticello detective commended

By TOM RUE
MONTICELLO - A letter of commendation for police detective Thomas O'Connor, 32, of Monticello, for excellence in combating local illicit drug sales was publicly read by mayor James Kenny at the Oct. 21 village board meeting. O'Connor was not present.

High-placed dealers were recently apprehended as a result of O'Connor's dedicated efforts, wrote Lt. James M. McDonald, chief of the Mid-Hudson Drug Task Force in Newburgh. A copy of the letter to Kenny was sent to Monticello police chief Michael Brennan, who sat in the audience as Kenny read it aloud.

Kenny joined McDonald in complimenting O'Connor's work. The number of felony and misdemeanor drug-related arrests in Monticello have reportedly soared lately.
