    Brennan issues denial

    By TOM RUE
MONTICELLO -- Replying to an editorial entitled "A matter of honor" in the July 11 issue of The River Reporter, Monticello police chief Mike Brennan denied owing aything to the taxpayers for a weekend trip he and a former village manager took to Dallas, Texas in December 1994, paid for with police department training funds.

"I don't owe any money," Brennan asserted at a July 15 village board meeting.
Previously, he has remained mum when it has been asked if he would to make restitution for the $1299 which two auditors have ruled was improperly spent for the pair to attend a baseball convention.
"I read the article," Brennan said of the editorial. "I'm not going to respond to it tonight. I'll respond at the right time. This is not the right time."
The editorial was also published as a guest feature in the July 16 edition of The Independent Weekly Review, a Monticello publication.
