Fire chief seeks input on Oneidas'
pledge to build new firehouse

By TOM RUE
MONTICELLO - Monticello fire chief Brent Starr wants his department to have a say in the promised construction of a new firehouse in the village, which the Oneida Nation has pledged to build in partial exchange for government okay to the casino plan.

In a June 13 letter to trustee Gloria Cahalan, Starr asked to be notified "of anything that may involve a new firehouse, contract for services, equipment purchases, etc. which would affect the Monticello Fire Department and its members."

Trustee Michael Levinson objected to the letter being read in public at the July 17 village board meeting, asserting the matter had been discussed in executive session and was confidential.
