Monticello mulls sidewalk clearing

By TOM RUE

MONTICELLO - Monticello trustees delayed action after a March 20 public hearing on a proposal to amend the timeframe and thoroughness of snow-shoveling required of village property owners.
Sidewalks must be made free of snow, ice and dirt between 8:30 A.M. and 6:30 P.M., or 3:00 P.M. on Sundays, according to the draft local law. Property owners who fail to comply could be cited by police and fined, officials said.
Village attorney Martin Miller asked interested parties to submit written comments on the proposed law to his office, prior to May 1. Until then, he said, the language of the law would undergo "continued fine tuning."
Other business
Jeff Siegel, owner of Sullivan County Info-Tel, a voice mail public service announcement voice-mail system, asked the village to use his medium to communicate village news to the public, at no cost to the municipality. The matter was referred to Miller and Cummings for legal review.
Trustees awarded a bid for aluminum siding of the water treatment plant to Dean Construction Co. of Neversink. Bids were let for supplies and chemicals for the highway, water and sewer departments.
Board members discussed efforts to improve the appearance of the community and directed that the rest room facility at DeHoyos Park be painted, to cover up grafitti.
