WOMEN IN FREEMASONRY

NEW YORK - Margaret C. Jacob will speak on the subject of "Female Freemasonry in Enlightenment Europe," Thursday, February 9th, 7:30 PM, at the Livingston Masonic Library, 71 W. 23rd St. (corner of 6th Ave.), 17th floor., Manhattan.
Dr. Jacob is author of Living the Enlightenment: Freemasonry and Politics in 18th Century Europe. The event, sponsored by the Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons in the State of New York, is free and open to the public.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF SULLIVAN CO.

HARRIS - The executive committee of the newly-born Habitat for Humanity of Sullivan County will meet on Saturday, February 11th, 1:00 PM, at Community General Hospital in Harris.
Agenda items will include important decisions preliminary to gaining local affiliate status with Habitat for Humanity International, a worldwide nonprofit grassroots mission dedicated to building decent, affordable housing for people in need.
Anyone wishing in serving on the board of directors of the infant Sullivan County chapter is invited to attend. Habitat is dedicated to principles of non-discrimination and equal opportunity. Broad-based diversity is desired.

DRUG-FREE SCHOOL ZONE WORKSHOP

LIBERTY - An informational workshop on the Drug-Free School Zone program will be hosted at Sullivan County BOCES on Old Ferndale-Loomis Rd., Liberty, on Thursday, February 23rd, 9:30 AM to noon.
The statewide effort to cut down on drug trafficking in areas frequented by children is supported and funded jointly by the NYS Department of Education and Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons in the State of New York.

RED CROSS VOLUNTEER TRAININGS

MONTICELLO - American Red Cross of Sullivan County will offer a series of trainings for disaster volunteers, according to executive director Karen Cooke, at the chapter house, 11 Bank St., Monticello, including the following:
  • February 4th & 11th, Introduction to Disaster Services, 9:00 AM to 12 noon.
  • February 7th & March 16th, Local Field Response, 6:30 to 9:30 PM
  • February 16th, Damage Assessment I, 7:00 to 10:00 PM
  • February 18th, Adult CPR, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM
  • February 18th, First Aid, 2:00 to 6:00 PM
  • March 25th, Mass Care I, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • April 1st, Emergency Assistance to Families I, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • May 6th, Emergency Assistance to Families II, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
In addition, one-time volunteer orientations are slated for February 23rd, March 29th and April 26th, 6:30 to 9:00 PM

DELAWARE COUNTY TOURISM SEMINAR

DELHI - A one-day workshop on promoting local tourism is being hosted for organizations and tourism properties based in Delaware County, February 27th at the Alumni Hospitality Center of SUNY-Delhi.
The event will be cosponsored by the tourism committee of the board of directors of the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce and the Regional Arts Partnership, both of Delhi.

WOMEN AND ALCOHOLISM

LIBERTY - Sensitivity to women's issues will be the subject of a two-day training for alcoholism counseling professionals to be held at Sullivan County BOCES, Old Ferndale-Loomis Rd., Liberty March 15th and 16th, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

REGIONAL ARTS PARTNERSHIP MEETS

ONEONTA - Barry Warren of SUNY Oneonta's Center for Economic & Community Development will address the Delhi-based Regional Arts Partnership on the results of an economic survey of arts groups in Delaware, Chenango, Otsego and Schoharie counties on Thursday, March 16th, from 10:00 AM to noon at the Morris Complex of SUNY Oneonta.
A second conference, also sponsored by the partnership, is slated for Thursday, May 4th. The meeting, which will include leaders from the nonprofit sector throughout the region, will concern the impact of non-profits on the social, cultural and economic vitality of their communities.

DELAWARE MASONS HONOR MARY CURTIS

CALLICOON - Upper Delaware regional historian and National Park Service employee Mary Curtis of Callicoon will be honored with the DeWitt Clinton Award for Community Service on March 17th, 8:00 PM, at Delaware Lodge #561, Main St., Callicoon.
The lodge is located upstairs from the Delaware Free Library on Main St., across from Fleet Bank.
The presentation will be free and open to the public.
Named for a former governor of New York, chancellor of education and Masonic grand master, the DeWitt Clinton Award is made each year by Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons in the State of New York to non-Masons who have given significant service to their communities.
