    Delaware Community Center
    on the move

Organized athletics, arts and crafts and possibly a music component in cooperation with the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, will form the basis of the summer youth program at the Delaware Community Center, program director Andy Ranaudo outlined at the May 5th meeting of the center's board of directors.
Free to area young people from both New York and Pennsylvania, the program provides safe and wholesome activity during the summer. It is partially funded through the Sullivan County Youth Board.
While most center workers are volunteers, Ranaudo and two staff members are paid to run the center's youth activities and work closely with the Town of Delaware Youth Commission.
Ranaudo announced that anyone interested in participating in the Men's Basketball League should attend a meeting at 8:30 p.m. on June 8 in the center. Games will begin on June 22. Ranaudo said that Fred Stabbert III, who put so much effort into organizing last year's league, has said he will be unable to lead the group this year.
"Those will be big shoes to fill," Ranaudo said, adding that he is looking for someone to take Stabbert's place.
Despite the support of funding agencies like the County Youth Board and DVAA, board member Michele Schuchman emphasized that a big portion of the $225 per day which it takes to keep the facility open comes from charitable contributions.
According to secretary Joyce Sykes, public liability insurance is expected to top $11,000 in 1987, with fire insurance adding another $2000. With relatively little government aid, the center relies on its members to chip in and cover these and other bills.
In other business, the board: acknowledged donations from Bruce Reichmann, Mickey Roche, and United National Bank; and welcomed Jane Buddenhagen and Holly Keyser as new board members.
For more information, contact the center at 914/887-xxxx.
