    Community Center
    gets new caretakers

CALLICOON -- Bill and Sue Hennig were appointed as new caretakers of the Delaware Community Center at Tuesday's meeting of the board of trustees. The Hennigs will live in the cottage on the grounds.
The center's financial situation has stabilized somewhat, according to treasurer Batty Schuchman, with a recently acquired loan of $4500 to pay a public liability insurance premium of $11,000. The center now carries a deficit of about $20,000, he said.
To raise funds, the center is planning a "Family Festival" on August 2, with a rain date of August 9. The carnival will include: games, bingo, balloon sculpting, face painting, square dancing, storytelling, and a variety of live music and other entertainment throughout the day. Volunteers are needed in a variety of capacities.
The event is being coordinated by Glen Hester of the Sullivan County Sheriffs Department. "I'll be honest with you. This scares me to death, but if we get some people to help, it'll be great," said Hester.
This summer's program is beginning to take shape, with plans for supervised and instructional swimming, arts and crafts, and organized sports.
To coordinate with funding agencies, a five-member Youth Commission Board was picked, including: Phil Jacobi, Tom Rue, Batty and Michele Schuchman, and Linda Stafford.
