    Emergency communications

HONESDALE - The Wayne County Commissioners heard more last Thursday, from emergency Management Agency (EMA) coordinator Vince Martone, and Bruce Snyder, president of the Damascus Township Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Martone and Snyder have sparred verbally lately at public meetings and in writing. Both are concerned with improving the county's emergency communications network which they admit is outdated and riddled with problems.
Commissioner Robert Carmody proposed a meeting with martone, radio dispatchers, and captains and presidents of the county's ambulance corps.
Reached for comment Tuesday, chief clerk Reg Wayman told The River Reporter that the meeting had not yet been scheduled. "We're looking into two proposals," for relay tower placements, Wayman explained. One proposal location is Belmont Corners, near Pleasant Mount in the northern part of the county. A second tower would be at Tanglewood Ski Lodge in the south.
Commissioners hope the two new towers will solve the existing problem of "dead spots" in the county, where radio and pager transmission can not be received due to the rugged terrain.
Wayman said that a date will be discussed at the February 27th commissioners' meeting.
