Independent Weekly Review was off the mark
You were off the mark in criticizing The River Reporter and your motives are suspect. Having failed in your attempts at a buy-out of that newspaper, as has been publicly reported, you've sunk to unethical and partisan smears among your competitive tactics. You had no right to alter my article as you did, misrepresent it as a reprint, then castigate me for changes which you yourself made. (There are at least 16 changes in your so-called reprint, compared to the manner in which it was first published, mostly in paragraphing and use of quotation marks, substantially altering the flow and meaning; as well as changing the emphasis given to the section describing the controversial statement about Jewish people, so central to your thesis.) , Monticello, NY, 10-22-1996
Secondly, as a Republican committeeman and one who sits on various government bodies, you are well aware of the meaning which the designation "Official Minutes" carries. Permit me to point out the error in your headline above a reprint of the village's rough, and only partially accurate (in comparison to the audo tape), transcript of a segment of the October 7 village board meeting, as well as as mentions of it in your editorial. Had the village board approved that transcript at the time you labeled it such? Of course not. Did you need to falsely label the document in order to prop up your argument?
Most sleazy of all, Mr. Kurlander, was invoking the memory of those who perished in the Holocause in order to aggrandize yourself and promote your commericial interests, attempting to denigrate your business competitors.
Sincerely,
TOM RUE
