Lt. Crawford Killed In Viet Nam

Monticello, March 14 - Sullivan County was shocked and saddened Sunday when news that Navy Lieut. John Crawford, son of Dr. and Mrs. William A. Crawford of Monticello, had been killed in Viet Nam.
Dr. Crawford, pastor of the Monticello Presbyterian Church, was on a cruise around Africa at the time. His wife, Mrs. Mary Crawford, was notified by the Navy Department Sunday morning. No details were given.
There was one report that Lieut. Crawford was killed while flying in a Navy DC-47.
Born at Monticello Oct. third, 1936, Lieut. Crawford spent his young life at Monticello where he graduated from high school. He also graduated from the State University College at Oswego.
He played in the band while at Monticello High School and was president of the student government while at college
Lieut. Crawford was married Dec. 16, 1941 to Mary Pidel of Yonkers.
In addition to his parents and wife, survivors in clude a daughter, Patricia Marie; a brother, William, New York City; two sisters, Mrs. Forrest Owen, Middletown, and Mrs. John Webb, Blue Ridge, Ga.; the maternal grandparents, and aunts, uncles and cousins.
