BUD RUE'S POIGNANT DEATH

The Upper Delaware UU Fellowship in Milanville, PA, was deeply touched by the death of one of its members, Clyde (Bud) Rue, on October 24, during a UU Walk for Social Justice he had organized. Bud Rue was known in his community as a man who wanted to help others. He had helped to organize a local chapter of Habitat for Humanity, a chapter of Amnesty International, and the Upper Delawrae UU Fellowship. He and his wife, Ann, devoted themselves to charitable projects. Within the UU fellowship, he had suggested that ten percent of its modest budget be given to worthy social causes. That would have amounted to $400.
His suggestion led to a 10-kilometer UU walkathon, with participants soliciting fixed amounts for each kilometer walked. The 20 people who took part in the walk raised not $400 but $2,000. The money was divided equally among Habitat for Humanity, the Victims Intervention Center, Interfaith Outreach, and the UU United Nations Office. This shows what even a small, young congregation can do in the field of social action. And when a memorial service for Bud Rue was held, almost 200 people attended. Our condolences to our fellow UUs in Milanville who have lost a very special person.
