Milanville camp reopens as
reading and math center

Innisfree Corporation, the nonprofit group which operated a summer camp at the former Hillside Acres, near Skinners Falls, in the early and middle 1970s, has announced plans to conduct a remedial reading and math clinic for young teenagers in the summer of 1983.
Named for the poem of the same name by William Butler Yeates, Innisfree was founded in 1970 by a group of educators who saw a need for a more personalized approach to teaching than their public shcool setting allowed. Funded by a grant from the Bluestein Foundation of Montclair, N.J., as well as individual contributions, the fledgling organization purchased a boarding house, then operated by Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Ropke of Milanville, to put their ideas into practice. Although organized camp programs took place during the first few summers, Innisfree has continued as a viable entity, actively engaged in educational pursuits.
The program for next summer, entitled "Project Success," was officially approved at a meeting of Innisfree's board of directors held in Milanville on Saturday, Sept. 18. As many as 35 to 40 summer participants are expected during each of the three-week session, in addition to state-certified school teachers and counselor staff, headed by math teacher Clyde B. (Bud) Rue as project director.
Between now and the summer, Innisfree's facility will be utilized on weekends by groups of students from various public and private junior high and high schools, predominantly from the New Jersey area, on outdoor education field trips. Innisfree's 14-acre site, which is now undergoing extensive reconditioning, includes a winter lodge with institutional kitchen; a dormitory structure to house participants; a converted barn, part of which will be used as an art studio; a year-round recreation building with dance hall; and a self-contained cottage unit.
The recreation hall is presently available for use by local nonprofit organizations, such as church, civic, scouting, or similar groups, at a nominal fee of $10 per use. Business or private groups which are not charitable in nature, but are interested in a secluded location for non-alcoholic dances, parties, or other activities, are also welcome, but will be asked to contribute a slightly higher amount.
Interested parties are encouraged to call either Thomas S. Rue, administrative coordinator, at (717)729-xxxx on weekends; or else write to: Innisfree, P.O. Box 47, Milanville, Pennsylvania 18443. Home office: Innisfree Corporation, 179 Foch Avenue, Lawrenceville, New Jersey 08648, (609)883-xxxx.
